Cutoff Rates of Multichannel MFSK and DPSK Signals in Mobile Satellite Communications

چکیده
AbstructThis paper studies the coded performance of multichannel MFSK and DPSK signalings in mobile satellite environments characterized by various kinds of multipath fading. Rician, Riciadognormal, and a convex combination of Rician and Riciadognormal or RayleigMognormal distributions are used to model these communication channels. We investigate the minimum average signal-energy-to-noise ratio required to yield a cutoff rate that is greater than or equal to a given code rate. Also examined are system design issues such as the effect of quantization and metric conversion, the choice between binary codes and M-ary symbol codes, the optimization of the diversity order and the signal size, and the order of deinterleaving and diversity combining. Numerical examples are given to answer concerns raised by these issues.

Differential Detection with Intersymbol Interference and Frequency Uncertainty
In this paper we study differential detection of binary differential phase shift keyed (DPSK) signals with several impairments typical in satellite communication systems. In pariicjlar; the bit error rate is determined for bit timing error and frequency offset error at the receiver. The effect of a hard-limiting, band-limited repeater is also considered. The differential detector performance is...

M-DPSK detection, channel estimation and power control in LEO satellite communications
AbsrrucfDifferential detection of phase-shift keying signals entails the ability to establish a stable phase reference based on previous symhol(s). In low bit-rate communications strongly affected by Doppler effect, like those making use of non-geostationary satellites, significant carrier phase drifts may occur within the symbol interval; thus, large irreducible error floors result if the Dopp...
متن کاملConvolutionally Interleaved PSK and DPSK Trellis Codes for Shadowed, Fast Fading Mobile Satellite Communication Channels
Using a model from the literature, the performance of convolutionally interleaved phase shift keying (PSK) and differential phase shift keying (DPSK) trellis codes for digital speech transmission over a shadowed mobile satellite communication channels is determined via digital computer simulation. First the characteristics of fading channels are examined and analyzed in terms of the probability...
متن کاملAn MGF-derivative based unified analysis of incoherent diversity reception of M-ary orthogonal signals over fading channels
Exact error probability expressions for noncoherent M-ary frequency-shift-keying (MFSK) systems that employ postdetection equal-gain diversity over Rayleigh, Rician and Nakagami-m channels are derived using a Laplace derivative formula. Both independent and generically correlated fading cases are considered. For independent fading, closed-form solutions are also derived for both Nakagami-q fadi...
